Our Prediction:

Athy will win

Athy – Johnstownbridge Match Prediction | 31-08-2019 09:45

Towers have struggled throughout the senior league and were relegated to Division 2 finishing bottom of the pile with just three wins. But like many other sides the Kildare town team will always put in a strong championship performance and if the Larries were to drop their guard there are no better sides around than Towers to take advantage. But at the end of the day the south Kildare team get a confident nod to get the train back on track.

Relegation Playoff[edit]

The tournament consists of 16 teams with the winner going on to represent Kildare in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The 2018 Kildare Senior Football Championship is the 125th edition of the Kildare GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Kildare, Ireland. The championship had a different format this year, employing a random draw for the first round, followed by seeded groups and a knock-out stage.

After which the teams that finish first and second will qualify for the knockout stages while the four bottom clubs have to fend off relegation in a Relegation Semi-Final. 16 teams play in eight first round games after which all 16 teams will go into four groups of four with two winners and two losers from the opening round in each of those groups. The 2018 Senior and Intermediate County Championship used a completely new format this year.

Carbury will be cock-a-hoop following their impressive win over the Larries in the opening round and will be confident of adding Maynooth to their hit list come Sunday. However, Maynooth under their astute boss, Declan Cryan, have been making big strides, had a very impressive league run, finishing fourth and showing great determination when defeating Allenwood in their opening SFC game coming from ten points down after eight minutes to win by 2-14 to 2-8.
