Glentoran – Institute Match Prediction | 02-09-2019 14:45

Saturday should be a great spectacle the final game of the season at home with plenty to play for. Head Coach Mick McDermott said on Thursday night: Were one big performance away from making the Europa League playoffs today so its fair to say this is a massive opportunity for our Club. Every player, Coach and supporter should enjoy that! Qualification for this Europa League play off would be the fulfilment of our first short-term goal as we strive to move into a new and exciting era. Thats why we play this game of football - to test ourselves at moments like this. Today represents another step on our climb and everyone on the playing and coaching staff knows what needs to be done.

The term six pointer is severely overused but in this case its totally appropriate with Institute eight points and one place ahead of us (though we have a game in hand). A win on Saturday is essential if were to both stop our current long winless run and to start looking to climb back up the table. Five weeks later and were back. A month ago we made our first league visit to the Brandywell for nearly 47 years.

Thank you to everyone at the club who has put so much work into securing both our domestic and European licenses for next season. All these people give up countless hours free of charge out of love for Glentoran. Since Ive been here, I have been very impressed by the commitment and dedication of so many of our volunteers in all areas of the club. They deserve a successful team on the pitch and thats what were determined to deliver for everyone next season and the seasons to come. From Directors, Finance Committee to the Academy coaches, Womens section coaches and players, the Media team through to the Superstore, Milk Bar and of course the programme team and sellers.

Institute FC v Glentoran

Weve been working on that with the players and well work on it until its fully fixed. We can take some positives from last week at Seaview in that the team set up well, kept their shape before the injury to John Herron forced us to change things and fought back quickly to equalise with Lukasz debut goal. But the bottom line is that its all about results and were out of the cup. Assistant Manager Paul Leeman said after training on Thursday night: The players have responded well to us in training after the very sudden change after Ronnies resignation. Again it was unnecessary individual mistakes that led to some of Crusaders goals and we simply have to fix that.

Keep going for just under a mile until you come to a roundabout. The stadium is around 50 yards alone the Lone Moor road. Travelling Glentoran fans should make their way to stadium via the lower deck of the Craigavon Bridge then turn left on the Foyle Road. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Lone Moor Road. However the police may stop buses on route to check for alcohol and visible flags on bus windows. Institute officials will be monitoring the route in. Institute recommend that travelling supporters use the main car park at the stadium. The car park is stewarded and holds around 200 cars so there will be plenty of space. Bus parking will be clearly identified. There is no need for police to escort fans into the ground.

If we avoid defeat, we are in the Europa League play offs next month. On Saturday we play what can fairly be described as our most important game of the season so far. Institute are two points behind us but although they have no UEFA license for next season, the play off place will not go below seventh place.

I know Glentoran has had three positive results against Institute so far this season, so we need to go into this game with belief, purpose and a drive to succeed. There are clearly goals in our forwards and with a big, supportive home crowd behind us I know we have the ability to get the job done and extend our season.

Yet again a late, late goal cost us dearly. We won our home meeting in September 2-1 through goals from Ross Redman and Willie Garrett. We are unbeaten by Institute this season. Last time out, in January, a wonder goal by none other than Elliott Morris and a great first senior goal from Paul ONeill saw us comfortably home 2-0 at the Brandywell. In December we criminally threw away an away lead on three different occasions as John Herron and Robbie McDaid (2) goals were cancelled out by equalisers.

We showed character to get the two equalisers and towards the end if anyone was going to win the match it was us. I also felt we were unfortunate to have the penalty given against us because I didnt think there was any contact. Warrenpoint matched us in every department in the first half and probably had better moments of football, but after half time I thought we showed a lot more urgency and did well to come back twice from being behind. Against Warrenpoint on Tuesday we changed the line-up slightly, with Marcus moving into midfield and Calum getting his first game back in the defensive line.

An encouraging fact is that we are unbeaten by Institute this season. Our defending was the issue that day in December as we rarely looked comfortable with our leads. Last month we criminally threw away the lead on three different occasions as John Herron and Robbie McDaid (2) goals were cancelled out by equalisers from a Dylan Davidson own goal and from the in form Michael McCrudden and a great late strike from Joe McCready. We won our home meeting in September 2-1 through goals from Ross Redman and Willie Garrett.
