Our Prediction:

Rangers will win

Livingston – Rangers Match Prediction | 25-09-2019 14:45

Were backing the Gers to win to nil here by a narrow margin, with a final score of 1-0. Livingston comes into this clash in great form, not losing a single game since the beginning of their pre-season. Rangers will be desperate to put their latest defeat behind them and focus once again on the Premiership and keeping an eye out on their Europa League opener. The Gers home form, except their latest game against Celtic, has been impeccable in all competitions. However, itll be a tough time for the West Lothian outfit, but they wont let Rangers away with much. Gary Holts side has since won 8 and drawn 3 times.

Rangers host Livingston for their Matchday 5 clash as they return from the International break, looking to bounce back to the winning ways after seeing their lengthy unbeaten streak ended by fierce rivals Celtic (0-2) at this ground. They now want more in an attempt to pick it up ahead of the Europa League clash against Feyenoord and to keep track of Celtic at the top of the table early on.

Things were going well for Livingston towards the end of December; they were unbeaten in three, had conceded just one goal in over 270 minutes of football and were generally playing quite well; however, things have since taken a turn for the worse. That will need to be addressed if theyre to get anything off a Rangers side that will undoubtedly be chomping at the bit to right the wrongs of Wednesday evening. Their performance during the week wasnt terrible and they were competitive, but they lacked ideas going forward.

Goal Margins

The visitors are averaging 1.82 expected goals for on the road this season, while their recent away expected-goal for figures read: 3.16, 2.16, 1.31, 1.17 and 3.95. Rangers were beaten by title-rivals Kilmarnock on Wednesday night, but it must be said that they were unlucky. Moreover, Rangers have done well from an attacking point of view in recent away games, especially in terms of creativity. Steven Gerrards men offered lots more than their opponents, as the fact that they ended the match with an expected goal difference of +2.58 suggests. Such numbers bode well.

At the prices, the bet that catches the eye is Both Teams to Score. Given that they were unlucky in the week, coupled with the fact that theyve generally looked good going forward on the road, it would be easy to side with the visitors, though they look a bit short in the betting. Livingston are no mugs on home soil, thats for sure.

Their opening day draw was followed by a 2-2 thriller at McDiarmid Park. Livi would then go on to stun an in-form Ross County side by thrashing them 4-1, which they followed up with a 2-1 win over St Mirren just before the international break. But Livingston then went to Forfar Athletic in the Scottish League Cup, picking up the first of their 3-game winning streak.

Rangers vs Livingston Match Preview

Ciaron Brown has signed on loan from Cardiff City but is only expected to serve as cover for the back three of Alan Lithgow, Craig Halkett and Declan Gallagher. Dolly Menga, the match winner when these sides last met in Livingston, went off injured in the Scottish Cup against Hearts, while Rangers loanee Ryan Hardie is ineligible. Ricki Lamie returned from his injury lay-off over the winter break and was at left wing-back against St Johnstone.

They have lost just one of their last six against Rangers at home, however, winning the last two 1-0. Livingston have won only three of their 27 previous matches against Rangers, with seven draws and 17 defeats. One of those was in the Championship in 2016, while this years two fixtures after Livingstons promotion in the summer have ended in a 1-0 Livi win before Rangers hit back at Ibrox in the reverse fixture. Dolly Menga scored the only goal in the former, before Candeias, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield earned Rangers a 3-0 win in November.

Going forward, without being imperious, Livingston have done well; theyve scored an average of 1.73 goals in front of their own fans, while theyve conceded a very impressive 0.45. Sundays hosts have lost just one of their last five at home, while theyve thrashed Hearts during that time, while they also managed to hold league leaders Celtic to a draw, which will certainly give them confidence ahead of this match. Theyve also given away just 0.67 expected goals on average, which suggests that theyre capable of stopping teams from creating. Fortunately, Livingston can draw on several good performances at Almondvale Stadium this season.
