Our Prediction:

Madison Keys will win

Madison Keys – Petra Martic Match Prediction | 25-10-2019 03:00

The aggressive, hard hitter is no longer racking up unforced errors. The American is waiting for the right ball to pull the trigger and that makes her nearly unbeatable. Elina Svitolina has been strong at this tournament and its impressive that the Ukrainian hasnt dropped a set yet and wasnt threatened by Dayana Yastremskas power. Tracey: The easy power for which Madison Keys is known now has an added element control. But I see a focused Madison Keys being too much for the fifth seed.

Puig will likely make few errors and has the game to punish any errant shots from Keys. Nor can she afford to falter behind her serve. If Keys hopes to reach the final, she will need to make a fast start. However, if Puig can maintain the sort of form that saw her strike 29 winners in the quarterfinals and return aggressively, she should have more than enough to reach the title match. But if Keys can find her cross court forehand with regularity, she may well draw errors from Puig, who struggles to deal with pace into her own forehand.

She will face another test up against Wang, who is yet to drop a set in New York. But Barty is not ranked world #2 for nothing. Jim: Barty has been making quiet, but increasingly assured progress through the draw at the US Open, with her 7-5 6-3 win over the dangerous Sakkari surely her best of the tournament so far. Expect her to prove too strong for the 18th seed.

Prediction

Keys, meanwhile, won an all-American battle with Sofia Kenin, though she was perhaps fortunate that the younger woman was so profligate with her break-point chances. Jim: This should be a superb match. Svitolina does not look like she will be in such a forgiving mood. Both women have made terrific starts to their US Open campaigns, with Svitolina delivering one of her best performances in recent years to beat her compatriot Dayana Yastremska 6-2 6-0.

Pliskova may be the higher ranked player, but she has not made the most convincing of starts to her US Open campaign. Pliskova will, of course, be a real step up in quality, but it is one the Briton looks to be in good shape to make. Jim: This is another clash that is almost too close to call. Konta, in contrast, is having a great season and has been electric so far in New York, particularly in her last two matches, as she has dropped just six games in total.

H2H Petra Martic vs. Elise Mertens | Beijing prediction, odds, preview

She is the most dominating server in the game. Against Petra Martic, an in-form player whos dominated her last two matches, Serena will need to come out focused and firing. Tracey: Theres a reason why Serena Williams is a 23-time Slam champion. But when Serena is determined and playing to win, winning is almost always exactly what she does. But, theres also a reason why the American superstar hasnt yet found her 24th title. Double faults and unforced errors can creep into Serenas game, opening the door for her opponents.

Just 16 women remain in contention at the US Open. Eight of those players will do battle on Sunday for a place in the quarterfinals and here at LWOT we are offering predictions for all four of the matches, which includes a mouth-watering clash between Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina, as well as Serena Williams battle with the in-form Petra Martic. Offering their picks for Sundays clashes are Tracey Essex, and Jim Smith.

Tracey: Ashleigh Barty is simply too strong for most opponents. Wang lacks any weapons to threaten an in-form Barty and the Aussie looks in the mood for another deep run at a Major. The second seed dominated her third-round match against Maria Sakkari. What most expected to be a tough encounter for Barty was anything but, as Bartys slice forced so many errors leaving the Grecian with no answers. Wang Qiang has played well to reach the round of 16. But, this is where her run ends.

Solid, aggressive and plugged in, the Puerto Rican, who was only unseeded player in the quarterfinals, was able to create winners from nearly anywhere. Her precision from the baseline proved too much for Collins to handle, with Puig scoring an impressive 6-3 6-2 win to secure her place in the last four. Her form this week has certainly done much to burnish the credentials of new coach Kamau Murray. She will certainly need to improve on that against Puig, who at long last looks to have rediscovered the sort of form that took her to the gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The opening set would be decided by a sole break, conceded by Martic in the sixth game with her only double fault of the set; by contrast Keys, who maintained a 71% first serve percentage compared to the Croat's 57% today, would not face a break point across the opening act. The speed of the Zhuhai courts has noticeably been a boon to servers this week - so it was unsurprising that a contest between two of the finest servers on the WTA Tour would be characterized by rapid-fire holds.
